A Supplication to Increase Īmān (Faith)

Every believer experiences days when their heart feels heavy, when faith feels distant, and when life’s noise makes it difficult to stay spiritually grounded. But Allah, in His mercy, always leaves a door open—a way back to clarity, peace, and deep connection with Him.
A sincere dua can awaken the heart, soften the soul, and bring a believer into a state of tranquility that only Allah can provide.

Today’s supplication is a beautiful and uplifting dua that has brought comfort and strength to Muslims for generations. It is a plea for stronger faith, deeper guidance, and a heart firmly anchored in Allah’s path.

The Dua (Arabic Text)

اللَّهُمَّ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ وَزِدْنِي إِيمَانًا وَهُدًى وَتَوْفِيقًا

Transliteration

Allāhumma thabbit qalbī ‘alā dīnik, wa zidnī īmānan wa hudan wa tawfīqan

English Translation

O Allah, keep my heart firm upon Your religion, and increase me in faith, guidance, and divine success.

Deep Explanation of the Meaning

This supplication speaks directly to the heart—the place where īmān lives, grows, weakens, and revives. It is gentle yet powerful, and every phrase carries a universe of meaning.

When you ask, “O Allah, keep my heart firm upon Your religion,” you are expressing one of the most essential needs of a believer: stability. Even the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the strongest of all believers, used to frequently ask Allah to keep his heart firm. This teaches us something vital: the human heart changes easily, and no one can remain steadfast without Allah’s protection.

This part of the dua is an admission of our human weakness and our total reliance on Allah. It is a request for protection from doubts, temptations, spiritual laziness, and anything that might distance us from His path. It is a plea for safety—for your heart to stay firm even when the world around you shifts and challenges your faith.

When you continue with, “and increase me in faith,” you are asking not only for stability but for growth. Faith is not something that remains the same throughout life. It rises with good deeds, worship, Qur’an recitation, and remembrance of Allah. It decreases with sins, distractions, and distance from Him. Through this dua, you are asking Allah to fill your heart with strong, vibrant, living faith that brings comfort during hardship and gratitude during ease.

The next phrase, “and increase me in guidance,” reminds us that guidance is not a one-time blessing. It is something we need every day. Every step you take, every decision you make, every emotion you feel—each one can either bring you closer to Allah or further away. Seeking guidance means asking Allah to illuminate your path, clarify your choices, and lead you toward what is best for your dunya and akhirah. It is asking for clarity in confusion and direction in uncertainty.

Then comes the final part, “and grant me divine success.” This is the heart of spiritual achievement. Tawfīq is a gift from Allah that cannot be earned through effort alone. It is when Allah opens doors for you, allows you to do good with ease, protects you from harm, and blesses every step you take.
Tawfīq is waking up for Fajr without struggle.
Tawfīq is turning away from a sin at just the right moment.
Tawfīq is choosing patience when anger rises.
Tawfīq is feeling the sweetness of worship.

When you ask for tawfīq, you are asking Allah to guide your life in such a way that everything you do becomes a source of blessing.

This dua beautifully unites all the essential needs of the heart. It seeks firmness, growth, clarity, and success. It reconnects the believer to the Divine in a gentle, heartfelt way. It acknowledges that faith is fragile, life is unpredictable, and Allah is the only One who can give strength.

When to Recite This Dua

This supplication can be recited at any time of day, but certain moments make it particularly powerful. A quiet moment after salah allows the heart to absorb its meaning. The early hours of the morning, especially around Fajr, carry a special purity that makes dua deeply impactful. The moments before sleep, when the soul surrenders itself back to Allah, are also a perfect time to ask for a firm heart and increased faith.

Times of hardship and confusion are also ideal moments to recite this dua. When you feel spiritually distant, emotionally overwhelmed, or unsure about the path before you, these words realign your heart with Allah’s guidance. Reciting it after reading Qur’an also enhances its effect, because the heart is naturally softer and more open at that time.

Whether in moments of joy or moments of sorrow, this dua is a reminder that Allah is near and that He is the One who strengthens faith, guides hearts, and grants clarity.

Benefits of Reciting This Dua

Reciting this dua consistently has a beautiful impact on the heart and soul. It nurtures faith in a gentle yet powerful way, helping the believer return to Allah again and again. It strengthens the heart, giving it resilience during life’s challenges and clarity during moments of confusion.

This supplication brings emotional peace, calming the storms that sometimes rise within the soul. It offers protection from doubts and whispers, creating a barrier between the believer and negative influences. It purifies the heart, washing away jealousy, anger, and spiritual heaviness, and replacing them with hope, gratitude, and tranquility.

Asking Allah for guidance through this dua leads to better decisions, clearer thinking, and a life aligned with the values of Islam. It opens doors of goodness and closes doors of harm. By seeking divine success (tawfīq), the believer finds blessings in their worship, their work, their relationships, and their entire life.

Most beautifully, this dua deepens the relationship between the servant and the Creator. It creates a constant awareness of Allah’s presence, an ongoing conversation of need and gratitude, and a stronger connection to the spiritual path.

Short Reminder

The heart is always changing. Some days it feels bright and close to Allah, and other days it feels distant and heavy. What matters is that you keep returning. Even a simple dua made sincerely can transform your spiritual state. Small, consistent acts of worship are the seeds of a strong faith. Trust in Allah’s mercy, and let this dua be part of your daily spiritual routine.

Closing Motivation

Today is an opportunity—a fresh chance to reconnect with Allah and strengthen your faith. Take a moment right now to breathe, slow down, and recite this dua with sincerity. Let every word sink into your heart. Allow it to remind you of Allah’s mercy, His nearness, and His willingness to guide you at every step.

Your heart belongs to Him, and He is the One who can lift it, purify it, and strengthen it. Whatever you face today, know that Allah is with you. Recite this dua consistently, and watch how your faith grows, your worries lighten, and your relationship with Allah deepens.

May Allah grant you a heart that is firm upon His religion, filled with īmān, surrounded by guidance, and blessed with divine success. Ameen.
